DNA testing is often used to confirm and validate blood relations. But what exactly is a DNA? DNA stands for deoxyribonucleic acid which a type of nucleic acid that is an essential part of any living organism. The discovery of DNA is one of Science's biggest milestones. It was first identified by Friedrich Mieshcer way back in 1889. By the 20th century, more scientists took time to study DNA and do intensive researches on its components, chemical structure and its function. The likes of William Astbury and Phoebus Levene are two of the popular men of Science who worked on such study. Today, the discovery of such an essential part of life leads to a number of developments in finding a cure to diseases and ailments. It also paved the way for Medical Science to understand and study an organism's life and growth.
DNA, being the building blocks of life, is responsible for detecting a person's genetic makings and characteristics. One of the reasons why DNA testing is used to confirm blood relations is because DNA actually maintains the genetic materials and blueprints of its parent organism. For example, a mother and a child would have the same DNA makings. DNA molecules are largely responsible for storing information. These information include cell construction and identifying the presence of proteins and RNA (ribonucleic acid). These segments that carry such vital information are also referred to as genes. DNA is a critical part of any organism and has a number of functions that is responsible in sustaining life. When it comes to chemical structure, DNA can be identified as two sets of long polymers. The units that compose these polymers are referred to as nucleotides. Backbones of these structures are made up of phosphate groups and sugars. The polymer strands are anti-parallel and go in opposite directions. The bases, which are the molecules that are attached to the sugar in DNA, are responsible for encoding information. These information can be analyzed and studied to reveal an organism's genetic code. The genetic code would primarily identify the sequence of proteins and amino acids within the body. The said process is also referred to as transcription which is often used for DNA testing. DNA is important because its store the genetic blueprint of an organism and is also crucial for inheritance. DNA is also responsible in other bodily functions, especially when it comes to a person's growth and maintenance of life. Ultimately, DNA holds the instructions that are responsible in the development, reproduction and sustaining life.
