Does the mother have the be tested during a legal dna paternity test?

Q: Me, my son, and his alleged father went to take a legal dna paternity test and i wasn’t aware that i needed to be tested because they did not say anything. will that affect my results in anyway?

A: They need your DNA so that they can see what DNA your son inherited from you in order to better identify his biological father or rule out the potential father. Without your DNA the test is much weaker statistically then with it.
