Q: When can you test for paternity during pregnancy?
A: Prenatal DNA Testing can be done as early as 10-12 weeks. However, the Mother will want to speak with her physician to determine if Mother and child are healthy enough to go through the procedure to collect the child’s DNA. This is done through CVS or amniocentesis (usually done using a needle to collect fluids). I work for Identigene DNA testing center, and there are many physicians out there that wont perform a CVS or amniocentesis just for DNA testing purposes because of the risks involved. This is something you will need to speak with your physician about.
